The Goal of Thermography
The goal of thermography is not to compete with mammography, but to identify abnormal physiological changes before structural changes arise. These changes could be in the breast or anywhere else in the body. The key is to early identification which can lead to early intervention!
Thermography is a functional test, that can monitor abnormal physiology and detect the subtle changes that accompany breast pathology. Whereas anatomical imaging provides unparalleled detail to lesion size, location, morphology, and structural changes to adjacent tissues. The only true test to accurately identify cancer is a biopsy. However, with the synergistic capabilities of multimodality imaging such as thermography, we can help improve our ability to characterize pathology and achieve the best possible outcomes for health-wellness.

Thermography Saves Lives
We started scanning our patients’ kids for free for our technician service back in 2014. This was after one of the other Breast Thermography International members started scanning kids in his office at no charge. After scanning about 45 kids, they found breast cancer in an 11 year old. Thermography is safe at any age! Our youngest patient is 2 and our oldest patient is 96!
Women who are diagnosed with breast cancer in their 20’s or 30’s are less likely to survive because there is not a standard screening for this age group. These women often have young children and should not go unscreened due to the Mammogram guidelines that start screening women at age 40.
Thermography is an excellent analysis for people of all ages. Not only could a woman get breast cancer (1 in 8 in the US) but men can as well (1 in 833)!
Since you use your entire body everyday, it’s ideal to check your body with our Full Body screening service. From the bottom of your feet all the way up to your head, know what is happening thermographically to potentially detect cancer or other disease early. Most important, use this scan as a preventive health tool!

Our Certified Thermography Technicians follow particular protocols for your screening:
The room should be set up correctly (68-72 degrees and no direct sunlight).
Thermography is performed ideally in the nude (thong or jockstrap is ok but not preferred to check the skin everywhere) because clothes and hair hide accurate heat signatures. Privacy screening is used for men.
You will be asked to acclimate for about 10 minutes in a private room without your clothes on to get your skin temperature to a definable level. Your clothing holds a heat signature on your body and we need about 10 minutes for your skin to cool down. This allows for us to take images of your true surface temperatures.
For adults we offer 3 screening types. A Breast scan or 1 region of the body, the Health Screening and the Full Body scan.
Since you use your entire body every single day, it’s ideal to start with a Full Body scan or get one at least once a year. We also recommend a Full Body scan due to all the thermographic findings we see in our patients that you can’t see with the naked eye. Cancer doubles on average every 90 days. You can monitor your entire body safely with thermography.
The Health Screening is from the pubic floor up to the top of the forehead. It excludes the arms, hands, legs and feet. Many opt for this scan to at least check out the surface temperatures over most of your major organs.
If you only want to check on one region of the body, you can do that by signing up for the Breast screening. The most popular single region is the Breast scan but we have also performed head/neck, abdomen, back, arms or legs.
After your screening, we send the images to a team of trained thermologists from PACT to have them interpret the images. When the report is ready, a consultation with a doctor will be scheduled.
After you receive your report back, schedule a review with your physician. A second review will be with a Certified Thermographic Technician. If your doctor isn't familiar with thermography you can set up a consultation with one of our thermologists for a small fee. We connect with many local doctors or doctors who offer telemedicine who use thermography in their practice on a regular basis. We are happy to help your doctor become educated or refer you to a doctor who is already very familiar with reviewing these reports.
During your screening, you’ll be standing in front of the camera and sitting in a chair in 6 - 30 different positions depending on the screening you choose. This takes approximately 10-30 mins. Appointments are 30 minutes to an hour to allow for intake form review, the screening, scheduling a follow up consult, processing the payment and answering all of your questions.
Full body scans or the scan of your choice are usually scheduled from every 3-months to once a year, depending on the results in your last thermography scan. Some findings warrant a follow up in 1 month, or 3 months and many are recommended in 6 months to establish a baseline. Those who look great or improved from their last scan receive a year follow up.
Our report turnaround time is 1-2 weeks. Most of the time we see the reports back in less than 1 week. Sometimes during the year we have busy seasons or some of our interpreting doctors may be called away on an emergency case or have life events come up which can take the return process up to 2 weeks. We offer a STAT service for anyone who has a pressing matter 2-3 business days turn around at no additional cost.
PACT discontinued the use of TH ratings in January 2012. It was found by its investigators to be outdated (c.1979) and in need of improvement. The TH rating system was based on older technology that was less accurate than today's current digital imaging and computer processing. Many of the factors that were identified with the newer imaging devices were that abnormal anatomy vascularity. This increase in factors raised the rating for the patient to be a TH4 or TH 5 in too many cases. Risk factor assessment has been shown to be highly inaccurate. In fact 10% of TH1 patients went on to develop breast cancer.

Some people ask if their thermography screening will be covered by insurance. Insurance coverage may happen someday but for now, for possible cancer detection that could save your life and to learn about what you can do to prevent it in the first place, makes this screening an investment in your optimal health. You can’t afford NOT to do this screening!
